Webinar Course Description: Attendees will gain an understanding of the medical and dental causes of OSA and its impact on a child's overall quality of life. After a comprehensive review of medical and dental treatment options, they will be able to recognize the indications and contraindications of the techniques currently used by healthcare professionals. Using various screening tools, including the Pediatric Sleep Questionnaire (PSQ), airway evaluation, and a thorough dental examination, attendees will be confident in screening patients for OSA and making appropriate referrals to physicians for diagnosis. Upon completion of this course, participants should be able to: - Understand the causes of OSA in medicine and dentistry.
- Identify and screen patients for OSA.
- Familiarize yourself with medical and dental options for treating OSA.
- Take an active role on a multidisciplinary care team, working together with various medical and dental professionals.
Speaker Bio: Jacy Stauffer, DMD, FAAPD, AADSM-Qualified Dentist Dr. Jacy Stauffer is a diplomate of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry and a fellow of the American Academy of Pediatric Dentistry. After graduating from the University of Louisville School of Dentistry, she pursued a General Practice Residency at Rhode Island Hospital, focusing on the care of adults and children with special health care needs. Following completion of her certificate in Pediatric Dentistry at Lutheran Medical Center in Brooklyn, NY, she worked in a private group practice setting for a few years before embarking on a full-time academic career. She spent 10 years as an Attending in NYU Langone's Advanced Education Program in Pediatric Dentistry at the Maryland and California sites. Dr. Stauffer currently serves as the Program Director for the Pediatric Dentistry Residency Program at Oregon Health and Science University (OHSU). She enjoys treating the medically complex patient population, mentoring resident research, and contributing to various projects related to pediatric obstructive sleep apnea. Her firm belief in real-time collaboration between physicians and dentists also led her to initiate the pediatric multidisciplinary sleep clinic at OHSU, where she continues to share her expertise and has even developed a clinical rotation for her residents. Dr. Stauffer’s position on the ABPD Oral Clinical Examination Committee allows her to fulfill her passion for lifelong learning by participating as both an examiner and writer for the board exam. |
