COURSE INFORMATION & WHAT YOU WILL LEARN
Many general dentists are skilled in performing surgical extractions. However, once the teeth are removed, that’s when another set of issues begins. Without additional procedures, the patient’s journey to comfortable denture function and satisfying esthetics may be long. This process may or may not include implants. Regardless of that, the patient needs a ready ridge. Is it free of pathology, both apically and coronally? Has there been adequate compression from expansion during extractions? What about residual sharpness of facial, lingual, and interseptal bone, not to mention exostoses? Many of these problems can be addressed by a general dentist, while others may require the expertise of a specialist. This presentation emphasizes the importance of this topic and reviews effective management strategies.
After completing this program, the dental professional should be able to:
- Recognize the challenges that lie between tooth extractions and a well-fitting and esthetic denture.
- Understand which pre-prosthetic procedures are within the scope of general dentists versus those that need specialist expertise.
- Perform more of these surgical procedures more safely and efficiently.
